About me

Bright smiles and home-cooked vibes in the heart of the kitchen.

Hi there! I’m Jake Morrison, and I’ve been stirring pots and flipping pans for as long as I can remember. I’m 42 years old and currently living in Asheville, North Carolina, a cozy mountain town that fuels my passion for hearty meals and soulful cooking. My journey into the kitchen wasn’t paved with culinary school or five-star restaurants—it was built on Sunday dinners, messy countertops, and a lot of trial and error.

Growing up in a small fishing village on the Maine coast, food was how we celebrated, how we comforted, and how we connected. My earliest memories are of my grandmother teaching me how to make her famous clam chowder, hands dusted in flour, stories floating in the air with the steam from the stove. That sense of warmth and togetherness has stayed with me ever since, and it’s exactly what I aim to bring into every dish I create.

I didn’t always think I’d be a chef, let alone one sharing recipes with thousands of home cooks around the country. I spent my twenties in construction and carpentry, but I always came back to the kitchen at the end of the day. There’s something magical about taking a few simple ingredients and turning them into something that makes people close their eyes and smile. Eventually, I realized cooking wasn’t just a hobby—it was home.

Today, I focus on creating approachable, flavor-packed meals that anyone can make, no matter their skill level. I love Southern comfort food, but I’m also not afraid to throw in a dash of Thai chili or a hint of Moroccan spice. Cooking, to me, is like telling a story—you start with a spark, follow the rhythm, and let the ingredients guide you. And yes, I’ve burned things, oversalted a stew or two, and once even set off the smoke alarm during Thanksgiving dinner. But that’s part of the joy—each mistake is just another step toward mastering your own style.

If you’re here, it probably means you love feeding people as much as I do. My hope is that you find inspiration in my recipes, comfort in my stories, and the confidence to experiment in your own kitchen. Because at the end of the day, the best meals aren’t the fanciest ones—they’re the ones made with heart, shared with love, and maybe a little butter, too.
